Group Projects

  1. As a whole class, discuss the Multimodal Lab Template.
    • MultiModal Lab Investigation SAMPLE
    • Review multiple modes for communicating information
      • you are a person


        who lives in the Amazon Rainforest. Imagine you have never seen a motorcycle, bike or car before. Which mode is better to help you understand what a motorcycle is?

        • Definition: a two-wheeled vehicle that is powered by a motor and has no pedals
        • Image - Is a picture worth a thousand words?
        • Sound - What does audio convey that text and an image can't?
        • Video - What does video convey that text, an image or audio can't?
      • Imagine you are a 3rd/4th grade student who is going to do an experiment. Which is most helpful?
    • Discuss the benefits/drawbacks of video, audio, images, text within certain contexts
    • Discuss the benefit of combining those modes
    • Fill out a sample together for Folding Paper

  2. As a group of 3, create a new page on the wiki.
    • Name it using this format: Airspeed - HGW1 RMC2 JMW11
    • Tag it with each of your usernames AND the tag for your class (see right).
    • Select the Mythbusters template

  3. As a whole class, we will do Mythbusters Experiment 7 - Super Hero Strength.

  4. With a partner, explore possible Mythbusters experiments. Pick 1 to start.
  5. Create another new page on the wiki.
    • Name it using this format: Airspeed - HGW1 RMC2 JMW11
    • Tag it with each of your usernames AND the tag for your class (see right).
    • Select the Mythbusters template

  6. As a group read another group's hypothesis and use discussion tab to agree or politely disagree with their prediction. Posts should include reason(s) to support their agreement or disagreement.

  7. As a group, complete the Mythbuster Project. Record your work on their wiki page for their digital lab report, using selected modes of communication (audio, video, image, text...)

  8. As a group, post your results, analysis and conclusion on your wiki page using the most appropriate mode(s).

  9. Return to the page of the group you added a comment to for their hypothesis (step 5). Using the discussion tab on that team's page, students respond to each of the following questions: (make sure to include reasons/evidence to support your comments)
    • How do their results and conclusion compare to the predictions you made for their investigation?
    • In what way(s) does your team agree/disagree with their findings?
    • What could have influenced their results? (variables)

  10. Whole Class Reflection
    • What tools did groups use to complete their lab report?
    • What are the advantages/disadvantages of using different tools, in addition to text?
